Gold Fish Have a Better Attention Span Than You

2015, blogging, content, marketing, trends 2 Responses

Attention spans (human that is) have decreased over 3% since 2000. According to the Statistic Brain Research Institute, a gold fish has the attention span of 9 seconds where as consumer attention is 8.25 seconds. Is it any wonder that the Urban Dictionary defines goldfish as —Someone with an extremely short memory, or one who is extremely absentminded. (I wonder if the goldfish are offended?)

So when writing content you have a better chance of grabbing the attention of your beloved Bubbles than a casual visitor surfing the Web. It is more important than ever for bloggers and other content creators to produce meaningful and easily consumed content. This article, from copyblogger  was originally published in 2009, but it is relevant today and maybe more so. Farnworth’s point

They go 60 miles per hour — and look at billboards

describes this consumer behavior well. People are trying to get where they are going fast and you have just seconds to make your point.
